The University District offers a great variety of rental opportunities in four unique neighborhoods near the University of Minnesota and Downtown Minneapolis. You'll find information about the District and its neighborhoods on our other pages.

These listings are intended to provide a site where renters can find properties that are suitable for stable tenants seeking quiet, well-maintained housing. We are targeting these listings to mature adults who want to live near their work or studies (graduate and professional students, staff, faculty, downtown employees, hospital employees, etc.).

• The LiveNearYourWork task force tries to check on the information in the listings, but cannot verify the accuracy of every listing. We do our best to seek listings from property owners who seek stable tenants and who maintain their properties well. Property owner information, zoning, and structural information (# of bedrooms, bathrooms, floor space, etc.) can be verified at the City of Minneapolis property information web page.
• We ask the property owners to list the City of Minneapolis zoning for their properties. Zoning (R-1, R-2, etc.) is, among other things, a guide to the number of unrelated persons who may live in a dwelling. The number of bedrooms is not an accurate count for unrelated persons. (Zoning does not limit the number of family members living together.)
  • R-1 to R-3: no more than 3 unrelated persons
  • R-4 to R-6: no more than 5 unrelated persons
